After all these years, Jarom finally had a chance to purchase some camping gear for christmas. Here we all are enjoying a trial camp upstairs in our house. Cole and Kristy are going to need some extra practice, but as you can see the rest of us are ready to head out. They were especially excited about the seperate rooms and a remote control battery powered light. Excuse the underwear. Cooper is strutting his stuff.
This year we started the tradition of Sinterklas from My mission. We've had to modify it a bit, but the kids got out the wooden shoes for the patron saint of children. We had surprises and made and ate Olliebollen (fried pastries that are similar to doughnuts). We sang dutch songs and learned a little bit about the dutch culture and people. It was fun for dad to tell mission stories about Sinterklas and eating warm olliebollen on cold cold holiday night years ago in the Netherlands.
Brynn had her first recital with her new teacher. She did such a good job. I don't know how they can memorize all those songs with bowing and notes. She has been practicing hard and we love to hear her play.
cole and shay spend some time outdoors. The weather has cooled considerably....we even had a hint of snow. Even with the cold weather, Shayla won't wear a jacket. Compared to weather in Ohio, this is nice.
Let the Sugar frosting flow. One piece of candy for the house, one piece for the tummy. Following a family tradition, we made our gingerbread houses. As soon as the houses were completed, they had already started nibbling away.
Brynn is 7 and just finished the first grade. Brynn is our very responsible parent pleaser. She is smart and beautiful. She is also very talented musically and is currently playing the violin. She is our little sports girl and "anything boys can do, I can do better" She has been busy trying to come up with rhymes to compete with dad's "boys rule, girls drool" comments. She is almost as competitive as her mother. Brynn is very thoughtful and is a favorite at school. On the last day of school, Brynn's teacher ran out to stop her so these three boys could come out and say goodbye. I would worry but something tells me she'll give them a run for their money. Brynn is our helper and such a good friend to everyone.
Shayla is our affectionate blonde. She will turn six in August and has been steadily adding to her birthday wishlist since early january. On a recent date with dad, she was having trouble picking just one item in the jewelry store. Dad, of course, was doing his best to emphasize the one dollar crown over the twelve dollar necklace, but Shayla just kept seeing more and more things that she thought would look fantastic on a five year old. Finally after making her choice, she turned to dad and said, "dad, for my birthday, you can choose pretty much anything on this entire wall." She is certainly our little girly girl and has a soft spot for her daddy. She is also our little animal lover. She loves animals, bugs, and basically anything that crawls. She could play with animals all day if she had the chance. She still loves pink and anything princess. She just completed kindergarten and won the award for most dependable. Shayla did very well in school and loves to play the mother role. She is very inquisitive and frequently asks questions we have trouble explaining. She has an adorable smile and a cute little laugh and is always glad when daddy comes home.
Cooper
Cooper is our active 3 year old. despite being dressed in princess clothes the first two years of his life, he has turned out to be quite a little man. He is very passionate about his breakfast. He is still our early riser, and "I want breakfast" is a common wake up call for his parents. Coop loves to play tag. He can run dad ragged in just a few minutes. He has mastered the, "just one more" routine. With the help of his sisters, he can get mom and dad distracted and stay up at least an hour longer on a fairly consistent basis. He also loves to cook. If mom is cooking, there is a pretty good chance that Cooper has assumed his position on the counter watching and of course helping. "Will you play with me?" is usually his first sentence when daddy comes home. He is also developing quite the vocal skills. Unlike the girls, he loves to be laughed at and usually has something funny to add to each event. Cooper is king of superfast and supercool. Cooper loves life and enjoys a good adventure.
Cole
As you can see, there is nothing in the world as cute as our little Cole. He his such a ray of sunshine. He is cute, cuddly, and content. He smiles at everyone, and gets way more kisses from mom than dad could ever dream of. He is just learning to crawl and can now get anywhere he wants in a hurry. When Kristy set out her wish list for a baby a year ago, she got just about everything she wanted in Cole. From the dark brown eyes to the bubbly personality, Cole is Kristy's little soft spot. He growing to be quite a chunk. Despite his increase in baby fat, he still managed only the 50th percentile in weight and height, but where it matters most...head circumference...75th percentile. He has been such a good boy that he has Kristy already dreaming of twins.
Us
Still in love
Eight years, four children, four states, five apartments, four schools, and still in love. As crazy as life as been for us, we are enjoying the wonderful experiences we have been able to have together. We live each day thankful for our children, our religion and each other.
